RV melodic phrase conditioners have two capacitors: a motor run capacitor and a drive depart capacitor. A motor run capacitor is used in the blower fan circuit piece the motorial start capacitor is utilized in the compressor circuit. Spell each capacitance serves a different purpose, each is testable in the same manner. The two types of tests are resistance testing and capacitance testing. Resistance testing provides a quick reading of a capacitor shift. Capacitance testing provides a more dead on target reading comparable to the electrical condenser's specifications.

Capacitance Testing

Step 1

Turn off the main Alternating current circuit breaker to the RV. The circuit circuit breaker is set in the RV's electrical load center. Take away the land power AC connection to the RV if it is on.

Step 2

Climb along to the Recreational vehicle roof and remove the air conditioner tender housing by unscrewing all Phillips drumhead screws located around the base of the housing.

Step 3

Place the motor run and jump capacitor envelopment. The enclosure is typically situated most the summit right corner of the air conditioner assembly when veneer towards the front of the RV. It may also feature a wiring diagram sticker on IT. Remove the enclosure cover screws and cover.

Step 4

Inspect the enclosure for ii capacitors. The motor run capacitance is typically a silver oval-shaped canister deuce to three inches in length. The motorial run capacitor is either black or silver, cylindrical in shape and is three to four inches in length.

Step 5

Discharge each capacitor by shorting the electrical terminals located on the top of the capacitor victimisation the matted blade screwdriver.

Step 6

Withdraw the electrical leads from the motor outpouring capacitor, taking take down of what terminal each wire is connected to.

Step 7

Measure the capacitance of the motor run capacitor by switch the multimeter to electrical condenser style and target the positive leash (red) connected positive or "+" terminal of the capacitance and the perverse (black) lead on the negative operating room "-" terminal.

Compare the reading to the measure written connected the side of the capacitor. If it is away of range, replace the capacitor. Repeat Stairs 6 and 7 to test the motor go capacitor.

Resistance Testing

Footstep 1

Switch the multimeter to Ohms musical mode. Place the positive tip (red) happening the Gram-positive Beaver State "+" terminal of the condenser and the negative (black) lead on the negative Oregon "-" terminal.

Step 2

Correspond to see if the resistance measurement gradually increases to near infinity. If IT does not, the capacitor is oozy and requires permutation. If on that point is no resistance --- a zero reading --- the capacitor is shorted and requires replacement. If in that respect is no resistance recital, the capacitance has an open circuit and requires replacement.

Double Steps 1 and 2 for the motor kickoff capacitor.
